The Kingussie Museum

From April 2009, the Kingussie Museum collections will be accessed by prior arrangement.

The Kingussie site was bought by the Museum’s founder, Dr. Isabel Grant, in 1943 and opened to the public in June 1944. Dr. Grant called the Museum ‘Am Fasgadh’, Gaelic for ‘The Shelter’, as she considered the place a haven for her wonderful collection of Highland artifacts and relics. (Click on this link for an article about Dr Grant, her life and the Highland Folk Museum)

Today, the Museum houses the nationally important collection established by Dr Grant and greatly expanded over the years. A wonderful resource, the collections include, furniture, household items, agricultural implements and tools as well as buildings such as the ‘Smoke House’, ‘Clack Mill’ and iconic ‘Blackhouse’.
